Drums begin the tattoo
The drone of bagpipes slowly swells
Until the magnificence of the song bursts in
An all encompassing ecstasy
That stirs the blood and elevates the soul
No wonder then that the sound has called so many to battle

To serve their lord, king and country
Encouraging its listeners to greater valor
Than they might ever have expected
And, for those who are not at war,
Wherever they abide or travel
Always, always, echoes the true home of their hearts
